We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Albuquerque. Our mission is to create social enterprises which create access to organic foods and affordable housing.
Our initial project is at Washington Middle School, where we re-purposed an underutilized greenhouse into an Aquaponics Learning Laboratory. The food produced at the school is donated to the students, while they learn a sustainable method of food production. Many Albuquerque neighborhoods continue to struggle with poverty, joblessness, homelessness, and an unprecedented lack of sustainable resources. Due to severe economic challenges, many disadvantaged communities struggle with access to affordable food and housing, let alone have anything left for the other necessities of life. The food that is available is not of the highest nutritional quality, and only downgrades the overall wellness of those who consume such foods. In the less fortunate communities, quality foods are of limited access or simply not affordable. Similar accessibility and affordability challenges apply towards housing, as well. Combined with the lack of sustainable job opportunities, these factors contribute to the cycle of overall poverty within these neighborhoods.
