Geoff became interested in health issues and pain relief as a result of being diagnosed with a herniated lumbar disc, resulting in intense sciatic pain. After exploring various treatment options, Geoff developed a passion for healing and finding healthy, therapeutic options to pain management.
Choosing to return to school to pursue his passion after a career in business, Geoff obtained his degree from Southwest Acupuncture College, studying at both the Albuquerque and Santa Fe campuses. He is nationally board certified by NCCAOM as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine and New Mexico state board certified as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine.
While pursuing his studies in Oriental Medicine, he quickly realized how important movement was to the healing process. As a part of each treatment, he spends time with each patient to make sure they are performing some sort of daily movement, whether it is just simple movements in a chair, to doing basic stretches, breathing exercises or maintaining yoga or a Tai Chi practice. Geoff is passionate about keeping people moving with minimal or no pain; improving diet and balancing the entire body to so as to combat the daily challenges of life. This is an integral part of every treatment.
Becoming well versed in all areas of pain relief became a priority for Geoff. This lead him to take a multitude of outside classes in in acupuncture theory specifically related to pain relief. He has studied a wide range of approaches, as well as specific education in Kinesio Taping, Myofascial release, all aspects and types of electrical stimulation and further education in the areas of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He studied with Dr. Whitfield Reeves, O.M.D., L.Ac and has recently been certified in Sports Medicine Acupuncture® from the Sports Medicine Acupuncture Program in San Diego taught by Matt Callison, M.S., L.Ac. This certification is the most advanced certification available internationally in Sports Medicine Acupuncture. The program provides the highest level of training in the assessment and treatment of sports, work, and orthopedic injuries.
Understanding that for optimal wellbeing, a patient wants to look, as well as feel, the best they can, he developed an additional interest in facial rejuvenation and cosmetic acupuncture. He pursued elective studies in cosmetic acupuncture from Dr. Paulette Marin, D.O.M. and has continued with extensive coursework from the Microlight Institute taught by Dr. Darren Starwynn, O.M.D.
His passion for understanding and applying all facets of pain relief theory and cosmetic and facial rejuvenation theory started what will be his lifelong study in the use of micro-current, micro-light and electrical stimulation, and lasers as an adjunct to Oriental Medicine. Realizing how fast and ever changing medicine is, he spends hours outside of seeing patients reading journals, studies and webinars to stay abreast of the changes and techniques both from an Eastern and Western approach.
As a Navy veteran himself, he is an active volunteer with the Military Stress Relief Project treating veterans with PTSD and anxiety and stress related disorders.
While continuing to develop his skills he maintains his ongoing practices of Reiki, Tai Chi Chiu and Seijaku.
