Sister Cities International

Sister Cities International, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. As a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Sister Cities International serves as the national membership organization for individual sister cities, counties, and states across the United States.

With a network that unites tens of thousands of citizen diplomats and volunteers in over 300 member communities, Sister Cities International has formed over 2,000 partnerships in more than 140 countries. The organization's mission is to promote peace and prosperity by fostering bonds between people from different cultures and backgrounds.

At Sister Cities International, we serve as a hub for institutional knowledge and best practices in the field of citizen diplomacy. Our membership association works tirelessly to strengthen the sister cities network by providing essential services, programs, and resources to help members find partners as well as to expand and improve activities.

Through our efforts, we aim to facilitate meaningful connections between communities around the world. By promoting cultural understanding and collaboration on various projects such as economic development, youth engagement, arts and culture exchange, education initiatives, humanitarian aid efforts, and more - we strive to create lasting relationships that benefit all involved parties.
